Hi gang-

Just a quick note that the winter solstice is now here and as of today, the days get longer and the sun gets higher in the sky. So if you are thinking of a new solar project but are unsure of where and when your shadow hit your preferred location, start taking notes. While there are apps for your computer or phone that will give you the sun's angle at a given time and date, a notebook, a cheap angle finder or phone app can make your next solar project a success.

Where I live here in Minneapolis, the sun's angle at solar noon is roughly 21.5˚ above the horizon. Plenty of thin treetop branches diminish the sun's rays, not to mention the extra atmosphere the sun has to pass through to reach my home. And yet, I'm still getting great heat from my collector, which will only get better as the sun rises above the treetops. Normally December is my cloudiest month, but this year, there has been plenty of sun, albeit with colder than normal temps. But I'll take cold and sunny over cold and cloudy any time!

Peace to all and have a Merry Christmas and have a Happy, Sunny, Safe New Year!
