I am new to the forum, and have been thinking of adding a couple of passive solar window heaters to my house for several years. I hope to finally build them this year, and would like to thank everyone on this forum for sharing your information and ideas.

I was originally going to build a back pass design, but it looks like the 2 or 3 screen designs are the way to go now. My house has a walk out basement on the back that faces south, and it has 44" wide windows that should work fine to attach the collector to.

There is so much information out there, and ideas seem to have changed quite a bit in the last 10-15 years as to what the best design is, so it is really great to see some of you doing side by side comparisons and posting the results for those of us just getting started.

I have been putting off building my collector because I wanted the "perfect" design, but as someone said in one of the posts I read, any free heat is better than nothing, so I guess I will go with what seems to be the best idea right now, and I can always upgrade later.

Thanks again,

Welcome to the forum, Jeff!

If you wait for the "perfect" design to come along, you'll never build anything. The first step is always the hardest. Build SOMETHING, you can always improve it if needed. That's one of the advantages of DIY.

Solar is like the wind. It may be free, but putting it to work isn't!
