This is instructions for adding photos because it keeps coming up, This is scattered around the site I'll try to consolidate it. Other suggestions are always welcome. The biggest and first mistake everybody makes is to not downsize there photos, Always downsize your photos on your computer first before uploading them. Scott suggested this for downsizing, Scott Davis's instructions are this,"Images are very easy to resize. Just open the image in Microsoft Paint (Start > All Programs > Accessories > Paint), Click Resize from Paint's options, select Pixels and enter in 1000 for the width. The Height should adjust proportionally. Then save your picture with a new file name. That winds up with a nice sized, on line image. " There are two ways to add photos, the easiest is when you are replying to a message click on the manage attachments under the text window. You can add as many photos as you want, (well I have not found a limit yet), and they will appear at the bottom of your text. You will not see the photos till you post the message. The other way is to insert the photo by using the tree icon that appears at the top of the text window when you click on the reply to message or are creating a new topic. You need to have a photo somewhere on the web such as in photo bucket or just any other picture you have found on the web be wary of copyright laws. This can also be done by adding photos to your photo album. If you click on your profile, (upper right under the login tab when you are logged in), it will bring you to your profile. There you can add photos, I usually add one then edit it and add a album name and description. Then just add one photo at a time because a bug in the system won't let you add multiple photos. Create lots of albums to keep your photos organized. Se my profile for and example here, SolarDan1959's profile Got to the album section and you'll see two but click on more and the rest will come up. About that tree icon, here is how it is done. After you downsize and upload your photos to the album. (or pick any other photo you want to insert) I open up one tab and go to my simply solar photo album. You have to click on the photo and open it up in the album. Then right click on it and select properties like the below example, notice the properties at the bottom of the pop up menu, when you click on that another windo will pop up that looks like this, Highlight the URL info like I did above and copy it, then close that window or it will not let you do anything. In another tab open up another Simply solar window and go to the subject of your choosing. (something by solardan1959 is always a good choice) Click on the reply tab and open up the message window. Enter you text and when you want to add a photo just click on the tree icon above, (next to the laddery film thing), and this window will appear. paste you URL info you copied before from the properties window in place of the http:// highlighted above, (replace this with your info like the next example) Once you do that and select ok your photo will immediately appear in the photo. I normally hit the right arrow then a return or two to move my cursor below the photo for more text. Hope that helps, Dan

When I try to add photos to the album I click on the add and it takes me to my folder where my pictures are. I select the photo and click on open, it doesn't do anything. The way I got my photos to add was. I right click on add and open in new tab. This gives me a list with 5 options to add 5 pictures. There is a box which says choose file. click on it and select the file from your folder. You can do this 5 times. I added 5 pictures at once. Dan, I went to your album and all the pictures fill the boxes and you are able to see them nicely. Mine are all small and you have to click on them to see them. I must be doing something wrong.

I think I got it. It seems that in paint it is resizing the photo, but not the actual frame of the picture. In paint I pull up the photo, then select all, then resize, type in 1000 in pixel box and then resave. I must be doing something wrong there. I went into a program called Windows Photo Gallery. It displayed all my photos, I right click on a photo and select resize it gives you a box which says small, medium or large. I used medium which is 1024X768 Click on the resize and save box and it automatically resizes and saves the file with the same name with the size in the file name. Ex. box(1024x768).jpg This seems a lot easier to me than paint. Hope this will help others.

Another program you can use for resizing is Irfanview which is freeware. It can be downloaded from http://www.irfanview.com/ Once you have opened the image in Irfanview use the following steps: These photos are 800 x 600 You can use 'Save (original folder)' or 'Save as' If you want to keep the original photo be sure to saved the reduced size photo using a different name or to a different folder. Here's the 800 x 600 photo reduced from 3684 x 2736 Reducing the photo sizes also saves on your upload time and the time it takes to load for people by greatly reducing the file size.

I am also charged for additional storage space, so resizing your pictures reduces the cost to the forum!

Scott another feature of Irfanview is that it will reduce the file size independent of the image dimensions. I didn't want to overly complicate the instructions I posted so left that part out. The test image I used started out as 3.71 MB (3,895,239 Bytes) and ended up as 121.62 KB (124,542 Bytes) or just 3.2% of original. I think the image quality is good enough for the forums.
