This Topic is a place to post your Tools and Calculators you find useful when building or evaluating your project.  (The tools was meant to be more like software tools and not equipment such as anemometers or multi meters)  Please add your favorite calculators here!

This is a great site by the folks at Sustainable By Design,
that can help the Solar collector builder with lots of good information.  I can help you determine Sun Angle for your site, how an overhang my help or hinder your project, how much heat gain you can expect for your location etc..  Take a look!

Hi, Dan...thanks for writing!  I moved to a new web host, and apparently http://www.susdesign.com
isn't working right now, so I'll get that fixed.  This works right now, though:

Thanks for letting me know!

This link provides a handy tool to calculate flow through your round or rectangular ducts if you know the flow speed.   http://www.calculatoredge.com/optical%20engg/air%20flow.htm

Not so much a tool, but a good site to look at when your using , or going to use, flexible ducting.  Greg Wilson originally posted this for something else but I felt it was good reference material.

The always handy "Solar Survey Calculator" from Gary's build it solar,

(stolen from one of Hermit's post)
Next you need to do a solar survey - this is HERE...  http://www.builditsolar.com/SiteSurvey/site_survey.htm

This one is also from Hermit and shows Solar Irradiance on your area,

{ solarelectricityhandbook.com/solar-irradiance. } [Edited], bad link stolen from Hermit removed from service due to poor data quality, don't click on it, it won't work.  (That's one gallon you owe me Hermit)

Don/t know how I missed these but the calculate efficiency of a collector if you know cfm or airspeed.
This one is for Air collectors: http://www.n3fjp.com/solar/HotAirEfficiencyCalculator.xls

This one I have not used it is for water collectors: http://www.n3fjp.com/solar/HotWaterEfficiencyCalculator.xls

These were stolen from Scotts faq section, I just thought I'd consolidate them with these. ( needed them today and had to look for them)
