Using a swimming pool as a heat sink was mentioned in this topic (link) by Nessie. There's certainly lost of volume there. Other considerations aside, how bad would the heat loss be for in ground concrete pools? Is the in concrete usually insulated during construction? How well do pool blankets work?

After monitoring my swimming pools with blanket on and blanket off a rough rule of thumb was that I was losing 2DegC with the blanket on and 4 DegC with no blanket. This was a significant difference and meant that the heat pumps had to work all the harder just to make up the the additional 2 degC if the blanket was not fitted. Note - the blanket was only used early and late summer when I was heating the pool.
