No, I wasn't saying to stop mentioning links in the discussions or change that in any way.  That is fine and is helpful.  Mentions of a link in different discussions is also OK.  (Thanks again for that Zen link.  I really like that one and his approach to designing a collector.)

My thought was to create a topic in some of the forums where people could share the various interesting links they have found for future reference.  For example in the Solar Hot Air forum there would be a topic where people could share the links they have found related to solar hot air.  There would be a topic for links in the solar hot water forum, etc.  It could be pinned so it stays at the top.  Or as you said, an alternative would be to have a new Links forum with subtopics.  A post would just be a brief description of the site(s) and the link(s).  Each of us probably has our own collection of links, some of which we have not mentioned before or if we did they are in an old Yahoo group discussion (very hard to find things there).

As Scott mentioned, though, it might be hard to keep people from going into side discussions, beyond just sharing the link and description.

Kevin,
Sorry if I came across too harshly, I fully agree with what so are saying, just did not understand it at first.  Better to have the links in one place here than have them scattered through my favorites.
Thanks, Dan

Solar interested,
I feel this would have been better name "Build it Solar Sites".  Using this format you know what it is about and do not have to open it up to see what it says.  This will help a lot when there are a lot more post.

I wish there was a way to break the links down into one more level, but SI's suggestion of a new topic for each category of link is probably best.  GH had posted a bunch of links, which I consolidated here, but maybe I'll create a Miscellaneous topic and put them under that.

So, yes, SI, I like your thinking.  Please proceed!

Solar interested,  Okay, I see your point also, not sure of the best way to go.  Maybe I should consolidate mine under "calculators and tools"

Scott does the forum software allow you to pin a topic? If so, it would be an idea to post your instructions for links in a pinned topic so it remains at the top of links section.

I'm undecided about which way is best. There are bound to be links posted in the wrong categories and Dan has good point about "you know what it is about and do not have to open it up to see what it says.  This will help a lot when there are a lot more post."

Yes, I can pin a topic, but I don't think individual posts within topics.  Which post are you referring to regarding instructions?

Scott,
Maybe you could just post a new topic under each section, (or as needed), listed as topic guidelines.  That could then be pinned at the top.

I'm also afraid we kind of trashed SolarInterested's post though I think it was good discussion.  I'm thinking about going back and deleting my comments.

Hey Dan, I moved the relevant posts to the Suggestions for Content section.

I'm not sure what you want me to write for topic guidelines?  Maybe if you whip up a draft I'll have a better sense of what you are suggesting.
