since the wax is most probably purchased in a tin, why not just leave it in ... the tin ?

Not a bad plan, but considering the expansion of hot wax, you might burst the tin or pop the lid off. If the tin were less than full, it might work. Metal is a better conductor than plastic.

How about long metal tubes (downspouts) with provision for expansion?
