I was gonna use sharpie on the glazing

Get a Paint Stick from the craft section and paint a dot in each corner or you could use Finger Nail Polish. More durable then the sharpie.

The paint stick is a good idea, but I'd do more than a "dot" which can be scraped off or overlooked.

How about something permanent like engraving with a Dremel type tool or even a soldering iron? Then smear with paint and wipe off the excess so that paint is left only where material was removed.

That sounds like it would work VERY well.

Thuogh for classroom use the sharpie would probably do.
