Was planing on using a thermostat to switch the dampers and send the hot air into the other room when the original room gets too hot.

Would be wired different though to use the two dampers.  Minus the transformer hopefully.

Bert,

How far apart are the rooms ?

Have you studied possibility of zone heating ?

Maybe you could post a diagram of your layout ?

I'm not exactly sure which rooms yet. My small collector is in the family room.

I was planning on using the large collector ( not yet built) to heat the Living Room. It's about 25' from the south side.
Would have to run the ductwork through a crawlspace then the basement and up from there. The other option is through the garage which has an outer south side, then across the ceiling and through the wall into the livingroom.

If the living room gets too hot, I may route the heat into the basement.  Not sure about the second room yet.

I haven't done any serious zoning studies. Just research a bit.

Here's a rough drawing.

GH,

I have read that awhile back. Good article and good to refresh the memory. Thanks.

I have room between the family room and garage for a collector as well. The other option is on the roof, which will be the last resort. The roof seems to get more sun for a longer period. Will know for sure by spring.

Found this today, a 12v reversible motor, with 3000:1 gearbox, giving  1rpm at the output shaft, so a 1/4 turn (90 degs, flap open<->close) would take 15 secs. Torque is 2995 oz-in so should drive two flaps on the same shaft, opening one & closing the other.

https://www.servocity.com/html/1_rpm_gear_motor.html

$24.99 sounds a steal! ;-)
