I think by far the best way to generate exposure to this message board is through youtube, it is the first place that "most" of the DIY crowd go to get tips... I think a few simple walk through videos of some of the builds I have come across on this site would do wonders in terms of generating interest in the message board....

Greg, perhaps Craig's build is still at a stage in which a 5-10 minute video can be produced?

Wille, a short presentation of your Aretha experiments?

Ecomotive could do a bunch, I see he has short one on where the new house is going... I hope he keeps it up...

I have watched a few videos that briefly mention Scott or the message board, but they fail to put a link to here in the description.

Great ideas Thor!

Many times I wish I had a video camera attached to my forehead for a demo or show and tell. I could do stills and a voiceover, but on YouTube? I don't know if Craig would be the ideal choice. He is too far along on his build. Perhaps if I had recorded him at key points during his build, I could have done a voiceover explaining things. His personality is better suited to crotchety old man or drill sergeant than sales person. [biggrin]

You are right about Scott's videos. They direct people to the Yahoo site, which is barely used. Can a person edit uploaded videos to change links and such directing people here? If so, maybe we could ask Scott to update his YouTube video links. Keep in mind that this is not the ideal time of year for increased SS traffic due to the weather turning warm. But it might be something in a few months. And if anyone does any experiments between now and next fall, have a helper record the process. I know I'd probably have to ask a neighbor's kid how to edit and upload to YouTube, kinda like asking them to set the clock on the VCR. They still make those, don't they?

I checked with Scott yesterday and suggested adding the Simply Solar forum link to the video descriptions.  He said that when someone joins the old Yahoo group they get an intro message that starts with:
"
Thanks for your interest in joining SimplySolar!

To make a long story short, we are outgrowing the Yahoo e-mail group and we are encouraging posts to the Simply Solar forum instead:

Sorry guys, I haven't done anything with the ARETHA in about a year. The short heating season and the cost of storage has led me to believe Thermal isn't really cost-effective here, so it's rather low on my list.

Voice overs and stills are good to use on projects as well, I've watched many that way... and I think the highly opinionated old man commentary are the most entertaining!

I'm pretty sure that anyone who uploads a video or owns the channel can edit or add links to it...

I suppose we could start adding comments to others videos with a link to this forum......

I had a stack of blank CD's on the counter and my boy asked me what they were and what you do with them, we are now way beyond VCR's!!!

Hi. I am a new visitor.  I have made a video but still need to do a few post production tasks. When I post to You tube I will add a link to here.

I do not remember how I was led to this site. It was a few months ago and I had begun searching for ideas on undeerfloor heating. I do remember I found it at an early stage of my searching, so it must be easy to fall upon it by accident. Probably a search word gave the site via Google. Like most people I lurked for quite a while until I had some questions to ask.

What I found whilst searching is that people discuss solar at great length on sites that are full of people with no experience, and, like TractorByNet for instance, are even opposed to the use of renewable energy of any sort. These people are usually employed in, or have financial interests in, nuclear and fossil fuels, but they do renewables a lot of damage. When it has been appropriate I have given the link to this site. I have also notified a couple of people direct that I know are interested in the use of solar. They lurk.

The risk is that the hardcore regular posters (to whom I shall be forever grateful for expanding my knowledge) will eventually run out of projects and things to add. A few experienced additional people would benefit the site. I regret I am not in that category.
