It seems that a lot of new Simply Solar members get here indirectly by seeing Scott's solar videos on YouTube from 5 years ago.  They refer people to the old Yahoo group and I assume from there they find Simply Solar.

For anyone that uses YouTube, I think it would help a lot to post videos about your builds and include a link to the Simply Solar group here.  Even if it is just a short video showing the completed build and directing people back here for details, that would help.  Or if you have already posted a video, go back and add the link.

Great idea. I will keep that in mind. Not sure if I will make a video, but maybe I can pass the word around in other ways.

I prefer people to our site often. I normally have to write it down for someone. I wish our website home page had a better, or easier to remember name. You can't type in simplysolar.com as it is sale page stating the SS domain name is for sale. And the SS Home page address is Scott's ham radio ID. If the price wasn't too bad, we could take up a collection. I know I've used more than my share of the site and would happily contribute. The site could use an update to the graphics perhaps, but I sure don't want any ads either. I entered my info so when I hear what kind of $$$ they re talking for the domain name, I'll report back.

Talked to the people selling the SS domain name. The asking price is $24,000!!! He asked me what my "budget" was. [biggrin]

Not happening, but I wonder if a variation, such as DIYSimplySolar, DIY Solar, SimplyDIYSolar would work? I mean, we call this site SS because that's what it was over on Yahoo. And we can still call it SS, but it would be nice to have a web address that is easy to remember and share.

Any thoughts?

http://simplysolar.info/  looks like it's available. Not sure how people feel about an info extension though.
I like your suggestions, DIYSimplySolar and DiySolar. Actually all of those are good if available.

Is that a link for sale? Not sure how domain names work. Would Facebook be another place to spread the word about DIY solar?

The address doesn't exist, so most likely it could be bought on MyDomain.com or another like godaddy.com.

A lot of people are on Facebook. I don't think it would work for a forum, but a good place to advertise it.

The owner of this site may be able to get a domain name from whoever they rent this from.

This is where I use to get my domain names. It let's you know if a domain is available and gives you ideas on a name.

Actually a "SimplySolar" group might work on Facebook... There are groups for everything else.

I don't think FB is the right place for what we do here on SS. It's not the right format. But we could certainly use it to promote this site and direct people here. A page with a few examples, promoting everything DIY solar couldn't hurt.
